Inspired and want to go hiking in Europe now
After a long week of work, it was nice to take it easy with some good music and company. The Greenroom Festival was held at 赤れんが倉庫 in Yokohama. A beautiful area located right by the water. The great thing about this festival was not only its location but also its relaxed, surfer atmosphere. This is not a huge event. There were probably about 5000 people there. A nice size. Just enough room to boogy
A few things really stood.
The whole festival grounds had live art installations throughout the day. I always wonder where the first stroke was and how they know when they’re finished. Regardless, I saw some beautiful masterpieces to say the least and it was a pleasure to watch.

Kyoto Jazz Massive
One of the stages was called the Pirate stage, which was on an actual cruise ship that sailed out into the harbour while funky jazz beats and grooves were playing. This was one of the best experiences Ive ever had at a festival. Kyoto Jazz Massive played a killer hour set. He played everything from Jackson 5 to The Ohio Players. I got to meet him after the show to say thank you for making me strut all over the floor. He was a really humble guy like most Japanese people. If you’re in Kazakhstan, he’s playing there next hahahaha :)

Tahiti 80
A French act that I was highly disappointed with. There performance was more than lack luster. PLEASE don’t waste your time with them. Why did I write this shit?
Luckily, EGO WRAPPIN saved the day and performed a great set. This was my first time to see them live and I wasn’t let down. EGO-WRAPPIN is a Jazz-Reggae-Swing fusion band from Japan whose melodies and rhythmic structures can make anyone sing and dance. I was so impressed by the Yoshie’s strong and melodic voice. She gave love to that mic and showed everyone why EGO-WRAPPIN are still considered to be one of the best in the Japanese music scene.

Lotus
A little bit of home in Japan. When I first traveled Japan 4 years ago, Lotus’s album Hammerstrike was on constant repeat in my ears. I remember riding the Yamanote Line and the train up to Koya San listening to their music. For me, the two seemed to blend perfectly with each other. It might not sound that special but I had some great moments to think and write on those trains. Actually, come to think of it, this was where ‘The Man With The Kite’ (my first album) first kinda started. That album and the beautiful scenery really sparked some creativity in me. That’s why, Hammerstrike is one of my favourite album’s to date. They played a lot of songs that night and it just brought back some really great memories.

The rest of the time, I just walked around and enjoyed the weather with beers in my hands. Japanese festivals are still new to me and so far I’m loving them. I’ll be back at The Greenroom Festival next year for sure. I’ll post some more pictures later :)
